Beaches of Odisha


The beaches of Odisha are very vast stretches with golden sand and pleasent weather. The tourists from inside and abroad gets a wonderful experince and oppertunity to experience the natural beauty of these places. The sea beaches of the state attracts several tourist from near and far away places on a huge numbers to vist these sea beaches on a regular basis.

The waves of Bay of Bengal are very obstreperous and simultenioulsly sea breezes make Odisha beaches the perfect place to hang on and the best to spend some time with the family and friends. Tourist can find many Resorts and Hotels besides these beaches to enjoy there vacations and spend some precious time with their close ones.

To increase more number of tourists to the State, special steps were taken by the State Government of Odisha. There are several sea beaches like (Puri Beaches, Chandipur Beach, Gopalpur Beach, Talasari Beach) in Odisha where a tourist had enough liberty to swim accross the high waves and they can enjoy sunbath on the sandy beaches.

The Puri Festival of Puri is a special attraction for the tourists. The Puri Festival displays the rich cultural heritage and traditional legacy of the state through the brilliant performances of the artists of Odissi Dance and Classical Music.

Far from the maddening crowd and hustle bustle of the city life, the serene and calm surrounding of the beaches of Odisha relieves the tourists from the stress and strains of daily mundane life. The beaches are easily accessible by good roads and well laid railway tracks from all parts of the country.

Talasari Beach


Talasari is one of the less exploited Orissa beaches. The Talasari beach is not as frequently visited by the people as the other beaches of Orissa.

The Talasari beach is well connected by roads to the other cities of Orissa. It lies at a distance of 88 kilometers from the city of Balasore and 4 kilometers from Chandaneswar. The beach of Talasari can also be visited from the popular beach at Digha in the state of West Bengal. The beach lies at a short distance of 8 kilometers from Digha.


The waters of the sea at Talasari beach are not turbulent but calm and peaceful. Children enjoy gathering shells of different shapes and sizes that lie in abundance in the beach.

The beach at Talasari is popularly visited by the local people during the weekends. Tourists arrive here to spend a serene and tranquil vacation.

Ramchandi Beach


The Ramchandi is one of the Odisha's beaches that lie at a distance of 7 kilometers from Konark Temple. The beach lies at the mouth where the River Kusabhadra meets the Bay of Bengal. The river is named after the presiding deity of the region, Kusabhadra who is worshipped who is worshipped with reverence by the local people.

The Ramchandi Beach is not as populated as the other beaches of Orissa. The beach is formed at the confluence of the river and the Bay of Bengal and therefore the waters are not turbulent and do not form high rising waves. The beach is mostly visited by the local people in the weekends.

The Ramchandi Beach is well connected by roads to the city of Bhubaneshwar and Puri. The nearest airport of the region lies at Bhubaneshwar. Puri is also well connected by railways to the major cities of Kolkata, New Delhi and Tirupati. Roads connect Puri to Vishakhapatnam, Ranchi, Raipur, Durgapur and Kolkata.

Puri Beach


Puri is one of the most popular Orissa beaches that is thronged by the pilgrims all round the year. The shimmering sand, high rising waves and the unbroken sea bed of Puri lure national and international tourists.

Puri is popular for its temple of Lord Jagannath. The temple was built in the 12th century and dedicated to the Lord of the Universe. Indian and foreign tourists arrive in large numbers every year to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath, the reigning deity of the region. The pilgrims wade through the waters of the Bay of Bengal and often gather in large numbers in the beaches to take the traditional dip.

Fishing is a major source of income of the people of the region. Catamarans and the nets lie lined on the beaches of Puri. A row of hotels stand along the beach of Puri.

Puri Beach lies at a distance of 60 kilometers from the capital city of Bhubaneshwar. It is placed at a distance of 35 kilometers from the city of Konark. The beach town is well connected by the railways to the cities of Kolkata, Ahmadabad, Tirupati and New Delhi. The roads connect the town to Bhubaneshwar where lies the nearest airport. Puri is best visited during the months of June and July when the Ratha Yatra of Lord Jagannath commences.

Paradeep Beach


The importance of Paradeep and its beach is manifold. Besides being an attractive tourist spot, the Paradeep beach in Orissa is also one of the most important commercial sea port of the country. Paradeep which is actually an estuary of the Mahanadi River, is one of the most popular beaches of Orissa. Covered by green forests and adorned with natural creeks and island, the Paradeep beach is a paradise for all marine lovers.

Located at a distance of 125Kilometers from the capital city of Bhubaneshwar, the Sea port of Paradeep is the oldest existing port of the state of Orissa. Paradeep attracts a number of tourists from all over the world and its shimmering golden beaches and aqua blue waters explain its popularity. The tropical sun and the long stretches of sandy beaches are the perfect place to soak oneself in the organic values of nature.

The attractions in Paradeep are not restricted to its beaches alone. There are a number of places that one can visit around Paradeep, these include:

    Jhankad
    Bhitarkanika National Park 


Cuttack and Bhubaneshwar are respectively the nearest railhead and Airport of Paradeep. Reaching Paradeep from any part of Orissa is not a problem as it is well connected by road. The National Highway number 5A passes through Paradeep and links the sea side resort to 3 important tourist spots of the state, Udayagiri, Lalitgiri and Ratnagiri. The roads along the coast line is simply fascinating which makes the experience of traveling to Paradeep as ecstatic as the destination itself.

Gopalpur Beach


Located at a distance of 186 Kilometers from the capital city of Bhubaneshwar, the Gopalpur beach in Orissa is an ideal place to relax amidst a natural surroundings. The serene atmosphere and the pristine beaches creates the perfect tranquil atmosphere for rejuvenating ones mind and soul.


A paradise for marine lovers, the Gopalpur beach is the site of an ancient Sea port and the ancient light house on the beach stands as a memento of the bygone era. The biggest asset of the Gopalpur beach is its virgin nature. Still largely unexplored, the Gopalpur beach in the Southern part of the state of Orissa is a hub of local fishermen. It is probably this natural setting of the Gopalpur beach and the vibrant local life style, that captivates the tourist most.


The Gopalpur beach was originally a humming seaport with active maritime activities. After the second World War, the Britishers discontinued any kind of activity at the Gopalpur port. However, the tourists can visit the abandoned port and light house which are now in ruins. Crumbling pillars and desolated walls of the jetty give a picture about the bustling port that Gopalpur once was.



Besides the natural and historical spectacles there are a number of other things that the Gopalpur beach offers its visitors. There are several curios and souvenir shops that sell some of the most interesting and unique sea side handicrafts and the sea shell items are an obvious favorite. The Gopalpur beach is also famous for their sea food delicacies that are a must taste for the tourists.

Chandrabhaga Beach


The Chandrabhaga beach in Orissa is one of its biggest asset both from the aspect of the tourism industry and the history of the place. The beaches of Orissa play a dominant role in their history and Geography and the Chandrabhaga beach in Orissa is intrinsically linked to the past of the region. The golden sand and the casurina trees add to the natural glamor of the beach. But the biggest claim to fame of the Chandrabhaga beach is the Konarak Temple or the Sun Temple.

Originally, the waters of the Chandrabhaga beach used to flow towards the celebrated sculpted wheel on the Konarak Temple but today, the Sea has shifted and it is almost 2 Kilometers away from the Temple. Being the site of such a historical and religious monument, the Chandrabhaga beach in Orissa attracts a lot of tourists who come to get a glimpse of this architecturally beautiful and antique piece of history.


The Chandrabhaga beach is considered to be one of the most attractive beach in Orissa and it is also an ideal place to enjoy the intricate creations of nature. The solitude and and natural panorama that this beach offers is beyond description. However, this picture of serenity and calm changes drastically during the days of the annual Chandrabhaga Fair. This seven day long festival in honor of the sun God is accompanied by rituals and religious acts at the Sun Temple and as well as the beach. The beach becomes a fair ground and is flocked by colorful people, vendors and tourists.
